About Us

The Pickle Palace was founded in 2017 as a CIC and became a registered charity in 2023. We're a passionate team of staff, trustees and volunteers dedicated to our mission of saving food waste and feeding the people who need it most in our community. We operate our services from Chopwell and Greenside in West Gateshead where we aim to create a welcoming and safe environment where people can access healthy food, socialise and feel supported.

We run a weekly Market from Greenside Social Club. This Market is open to the whole community and everyone is welcome. Fill a bag of food for only £5.

We introduced our Charity Market in 2024 and it has been a big hit. We receive weekly donations from family, friends and customers and each week we rotate our stock.

Every Friday we create, wrap and deliver our Happy Bags. This supports people who are unable to come to the Market and is one of our top services.

Adult and Children Cookery Classes run throughout the year. Hannah organises and runs these classes throughout Tyne and Wear/Northumberland.

Hannah works within Chopwell and High Spen Primary Schools, teaching children how to prepare, cook and taste new foods. The children absolutely love it!

We work alongside major supermarkets and Fareshare to collect their surplus foods. We are very grateful to be supported by Aldi, Asda, CO-OP, Morrisons and Tesco.
