150g melted butter (you may need more)
500g of thinly sliced apple
Sprinkling of sugar for the apple and then an optional sprinkle of cinnamon and/or nutmeg
White sliced bread cut into halves diagonally (you can have crusts on or off but off will be prettier)
You can add lemon zest to this too
Shallow enamel dish or a medium sized enamel bowl
Dip the bread into the melted butter and line the dish with it, stew the apples with the sugar, and flavourings if you’re using them, until they’re soft. Add them to the bread lined dish and then cover the top with more butter dipped bread. Bake at 180 degrees until golden brown. This is a cross between an apple pie and bread and butter pudding. The outside will go lovely and crispy, like fried bread but then the delicious apple filling will feel very fresh.
